More than 80% of goods produced and manufactured in California are transported by commercial trucks.

Major California Areas

Los Angeles
Nearly four million people live within Los Angeles city limits, making the city the largest in the state.  In addition, the greater Los Angeles area (including Long Beach and Santa Ana) is home to 13 million more people.  LA is a world leader in the entertainment industry and has one of the most extensive freeway systems in the country.

San Jose

San Jose is located in the southern region of the San Francisco Bay Area, in Silicon Valley.  The area is well-known for the large number of high tech engineering and computer companies located there.  While San Jose has a freeway system (which includes I-280 and I-880), it is the largest city without a major "two-number" interstate (such as I-15 or I-80).

San Diego

San Diego is located along California's most southern coastline, sharing a border with Tijuana, Mexico. The city has a population of nearly three million people and its economy is largely composed of agriculture and biotechnology.  Major interstate highways that service San Diego include I-5, I-8, and I-15.

Major Interstates/Highways

Interstate 5
I-5 runs up and down the entire length of the West Coast.  The interstate begins in San Diego and stops just short of the Canadian border in northern Washington.

Interstate 80
I-80 connects the west coast to the east coast, beginning in San Francisco and ending in New York City.

Interstate 15
I-15 starts in northern Montana and runs south through Montana, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, and southern California.

Interstate 40
I-40 is a major interstate that stretches east to west, across the southern United States.  The freeway terminates in Barstow, California.

Interstate 10
I-10 runs along the southern most border of the United States, from Santa Monica, California, all the way to Jacksonville, Florida.

Highway 101
This major freeway runs along the Pacific Ocean up and down the entire West Coast, through California, Oregon, and Washington.  In California, the freeway is widely known as the Pacific Highway.
